Honorary Winner 2012 Honorary Member: Lieutenant General Robert L. Van Antwerp, Jr., M.Sc., M.B.A., P.E.

R.L. “Van” VanAntwerp LTG (Ret.) was appointed Chief of Infrastructure and Executive Development for the Flippen Group in July 2011. The Flippen Group is a Texas based leadership and organizational development company that specializes in talent assessment and alignment. They work with a wide range of clients in the corporate, sports, education, and not for profit sectors.

Van leads the new Infrastructure Group that works with other organizations to develop teams and acquire resources needed to rebuild roads, waterways, schools, and utilities that are critical to improving the fabric of society.

Van retired from the Army after 39 years of service and most recently served as Chief of Engineers and Commanding General of the U.S Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). He was the senior military officer overseeing a $40+ billion program including most of the nation’s civil works infrastructure and military construction on 250 Army and Air Force installations worldwide. As the USACE Commanding General, he was responsible for over 37,000 employees who provided engineering, project management, construction, and operation and maintenance support in nearly 100 countries around the world.

Van is a graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and holds an M.B.A from Long Island University and a M.S. in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Michigan. He is a Registered Professional Engineer.

Van and his wife, Paula, have three sons, Jeff, Luke, and Robby; two daughters, Julia and Kathryn and seven grandchildren, Taylor, Luke, Jake, Ben, Hayne, Natalie, and Maggie. They reside in North Carolina.
