2011 Annual Meeting

The 2011 Annual Meeting of the Board of Trustees is just three months away - November 12. Registration packages were e-mailed to Officers & Trustees, Committee Chairs and State Representatives earlier this month. If you have not received your invitation, please call or email headquarters immediately. All members of the Academy are welcome to attend. Please register on or before October 10 (please contact Sammi at JSOlmo@aaee.net for details). A complete Agenda will be sent to those attending as we get closer to the meeting date. This year's BOT meeting includes events for spouses.

Committee Report Chairs: Annual Reports are Due September 1st

The Executive Committee requests that each Committee Chair provide a report describing the committee's accomplishments for the year. Other matters the Committee wishes to bring to the Board's attention should also be included in the Committee Report. To download the Report Format, click here. Committee Chair Reminder

President-Elect Michael Selna awaits your recommendations for new committee members and/or chairs to replace those whose terms expire in December 2011. The Academy is seeking volunteers interested in helping the Academy by volunteering to serve on its committees. Committee appointments are for three-year terms. If you are a current chair or committee member whose term expires in 2011, please email your letters of interest to JSOlmo@aaee.net, and they will be forwarded to President-Elect Selna.

Summer Special: Give the Gift of Encouraging Certification

Summer is a great time to encourage qualified friends or associates to apply for specialty certification. As a BCEE or BCEEM, they need you for a reference. Early submittal ensures a place in the 2012 examination cycle and enables the Admissions Committee to avoid the last minute rush. September 20 - AAEE Breakfast at APWA International Public Works Congress & Exposition, Denver, September 18-21. Join Keynote Speaker Jake Keller, Vice President, Parsons Brinckerhoff, in discussion: "Adapting to the Impact of Climate Change on Roads and Bridges," from 7:00 am to 8:15 am, in room 404 of the Colorado Convention Center. Network with Board Certified Environmental Engineer and Board Certified Environmental Engineering Member leaders of consulting firms and agencies and other leaders of the profession. September 22 - AAEE West Coast Dinner and Networking Seminar: "GMs Pioneer Recycled Water Use in Southern California." Orange County Water District General Manager Mike Markus and Orange County Sanitation District Assistant General Manager Jim Herberg will discuss new frontiers they are pioneering through a partnership that focuses on an advanced water purification project to help meet the challenge of securing future water supplies. The event begins at 5:00 pm at Orange County Water District. The cost is $40. For details and to register, click here.
October 17 - AAEE/AIDIS/WEF Breakfast at the 84th Annual Water Environment Federation Technical Exhibition and Conference, Los Angeles, October 15-19. Join Keynote Speaker Brian P. Flynn, President of AAEE, Principal MRE, Inc., in discussion: "Startup of Large-Scale Industrial-PACT® Process." This is a full breakfast buffet ($25). Network with Academy and WEF leaders including Board Certified Environmental Engineer and Board Certified Environmental Engineering Member leaders of consulting firms and agencies and other leaders of the profession. 2012 Excellence in Environmental Engineering

Give your best projects the international recognition they deserve. Begin planning your entry now. Deadline for entries is February 1, 2012. Participants in the 2012 AAEE E3 will be able to submit completed entries online. Look for details at aaee.net available soon. New category this year: Industrial Waste Practice. The winner of this category will also receive the Wes Eckenfelder Industrial Waste Management Medal.

Frederick George Pohland Medal

The recipient of the 2011 Frederick George Pohland Medal is Dr. John T. Novak, Ph.D., P.E., BCEE. The Award was presented at the AEESP Awards Ceremony & Reception during the AEESP Education & Research Conference in Tampa, Florida on July 11.
