Wendy Wert was selected as the Academy's first Volunteer of the Month because of her outstanding committee work. Wendy serves on three committees (Seminars and Workshops, Membership Development and Outreach, Tau Chi Alpha) and one work group (Website). The word "serves" is an inadequate description of how Wendy approaches her committee assignments. In Seminars and Workshops, Wendy is Vice-Chair and has handled the arrangement of four regional AAEE events in Southern California. These events have each drawn typically 60-120 people and have all generated net revenue for the Academy. In Membership, Wendy is Secretary, and without her, the decisions of the committee would not be preserved or acted upon. She also chairs the Agency's Subcommittee of Membership and has led a group that has developed innovative approaches for reaching out to new members. As a result of her work and that of the rest of the committee, the Academy has continued to grow when most professional societies have experienced declining membership in the tough economy. Wendy is a tireless advocate for the Academy. In her numerous committee roles in other organizations such as the California Water Environment Association, Wendy takes every opportunity to promote the Academy by giving AAEE intros at events and setting up breakfasts and exhibit tables. Lastly, Wendy seems to have unbounded enthusiasm for AAEE. On her own time and at her own expense, Wendy has attended the last three Excellence in Environmental Engineering Awards Banquets and Conferences, which involves coast to coast travel by her. In addition, on a completely voluntary basis, Wendy prepares a summary with photos of every AAEE event she attends, often resulting in the coverage you see in the Environmental Engineer. This lady is really on fire for the Academy. Congratulations and THANK YOU!
