The Boxwood Conference Board reported this morning that online job demand rose by nearly 60,000 ads in September. Even in this so-called "jobless recovery," highly skilled workers are in demand. Unemployment for individuals with a bachelors degree or higher has gone from 5.2% to 4.6% in the last 12 months. The AAEE online career center is the resource for this talent in your industry. Engineers Without Borders - UCF is currently working on a project to build a 15 thousand gallon cistern, distribute slow sand filters to help with water purification, and to teach the village how to build composting latrines. The village we are working with is called Mare Brignol and we have been working with the village for a year and a half now. The area were currently focusing on is designing the Cistern, and raising money. We hope to build the cistern in December 2010. Any help we get would be very much appreciated. Four distinguished environmental engineers were honored at the AAEE Awards Luncheon held on May 4 in Washingtion, D.C. at the National Press Club. The honorees for this year are: Gordon Maskew Fair Award - Hillel Shuval, D.Sc., P.E., DEE; Stanley E. Kappe Award - Sandra L. Tripp, P.E., BCEE; Edward J. Cleary Award - Richard F. Lanyon, P.E., BCEE; and Honorary Member - Clifford W. Randall, Ph.D., Dis.M.ASCE.
The 2012 Kappe Series Lecturer has been announced. The 2012 Kappe Lecturer is Dr. Vladimir Novotny, CDM Chair & Professor & Director, Northeastern University. His lectures will be presented during the Fall 2012 semester. Details on his lectures will be reported in the Winter issue of Environmental Engineer.
