LAST CALL FOR 2008 APPLICATIONS
March 31, 2008 is the deadline to complete and submit applications for specialty certification and Academy membership for the 2008 certification cycle. All applications postmarked on or before March 31, 2008, will be included in the 2008 cycle of examinations. The Admissions Committee will review and recommend these applications for examination on April 28. Generally, all examinations will be conducted in late June through August in geographic locations based on those applying. The examination results and related documents will be reviewed by the Admissions Committee in September and recommendations for certification provided to the Board of Trustees. The Board shall act on these recommendations when it holds its Annual Meeting in November. Make sure those professional associates who you are encouraging to apply don't miss this deadline.

COMMITTEE REPORTS ARE DUE
All Committee Chairs are reminded of the need to submit mid-year reports documenting their progress on assignments for 2008. These reports are due April 1, 2008 at Academy Headquarters.

AWARDS LUNCHEON
The Annual AAEE Awards Luncheon is being held at the National Press Club in Washington, DC on Wednesday, April 30, 2008 from 12:00 noon to 2:15 p.m. The program begins with a champagne reception honoring winners in the Excellence in Environmental Engineering® competition. The entrant panels produced by the winners for the competition will be exhibited for all attendees to view. Award Program highlights include presentation of individual awards to:
  • R. Tim Haug, Ph.D., P.E., BCEE
    Gordon Maskew Fair Award

  • Brian P. Flynn, P.E., BCEE
    Stanley E. Kappe Award

  • Jeanette A. Brown, P.E., BCEE
    Edward J. Cleary Award

  • A. Sekarajasekaran, KMN, DIC, FIEM, MICE, MASCE, MIWES, PEng, CEng, MACEM
    Honorary Board Certified Environmental Engineer

2008 CERTIFICATION RENEWAL COMPLETE
The certification renewals for 2008 have been received and processed. Production of Who's Who in Environmental Engineering® for 2008 has begun. (About 120 missed the January 31 deadline and will not be included in the 2008 edition.)

ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEER
The Winter 2008 issue of the Environmental Engineer has been mailed. It features a new look and the "Class of 2007".

BOARD OF TRUSTEES TO MEET
The Board of Trustees will meet in the Spring on April 30 to review important Academy business.

THE FREDERICK GEORGE POHLAND MEDAL
Nominations for the Frederick George Pohland award are now being accepted. This award honors an individual who has made sustained and outstanding efforts to bridge environmental engineering research, practice and education. Only members of the Association of Environmental Engineering and Science Professors (AEESP) and/or the American Academy of Environmental Engineers (AAEE) are eligible to receive this award. The award will be presented at the AEESP Meet-and-Greet reception of the 2008 WEFTEC conference in Chicago (October 19-22, 2008). The award will consist of a medal, a cash award, and travel costs of up to $1,000 for travel to the award ceremony.

Nominations must be made by members of AEESP and/or AAEE. Supporting documentation is required at the time of nomination. Nomination packages should include a full curriculum vitae for the nominee, a cover letter from the nominator, and at least two, but not more than five, additional letters of recommendation. Past nominations will be carried over and considered for three years; nominators are free to modify or enhance their nomination packages. Please send nominations to:
