2006 ANNUAL MEETING The 2006 Annual Meeting of the Board of Trustees is less than two months away -- November 11. Registration packages were mailed to Officers & Trustees, Committee Chairs and State Representatives last month. IF YOU HAVE NOT RECEIVED YOUR PACKAGE, PLEASE CALL HEADQUARTERS IMMEDIATELY. All members of the Academy are welcome to attend. Please register on or before October 15. A complete Agenda will be sent to those attending as we get closer to the meeting date. ABET PROGRAM EVALUATOR TRAINING SESSION 2006 A training session for those wanting to be Program Evaluators in accreditation of environmental engineering education programs has been scheduled for Sunday, October 22, 2006 at the Dallas Convention Center. The course lasts all day and will begin at 8:00 a.m. and conclude at 5:00 p.m. The course registration of $150 includes breakfast, lunch, breaks and copies of course materials. To register, please contact Sammi Olmo at AAEE Headquarters, 410-266-3311 or on-line as part of the WEFTEC registration at www.weftec.org. 2007 KAPPE LECTURER Rudy J. Tekippe has agreed to serve as the Kappe Lecturer in 2007. Details on the lectures will be reported in the Winter issue of the Environmental Engineer. 2007 EXCELLENCE IN ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING Begin planning your entry now. Deadline for entries is February 1, 2007. The AAEE E3 Competition for 2007 will introduce a new entirely electronic submission process. Participants will be able to submit their completed entry directly online. Judging will also be conducted electronically allowing for an unlimited geographic representation of judges. Look for details on our website at aaee.net. INTERNATIONAL WATER ASSOCIATION INNOVATION AWARDS Winners of the AAEE E3 Awards were eligible to submit entries into the IWA Innovation Awards. E3 Committee Chair, William P. Dee, presented the awards in Beijing on September 11. E3 Winners that are also IWA Winners are: Superior Achievement Award — ASA Advanced Wastewater Treatment Facility Upgrade in Alexandria, Virginia submitted by CH2M Hill. Grand Prize in Research — Carlsbad Seawater Desalination Demonstration Facility in Carlsbad, California submitted by Poseidon Resources Corporation. Grand Prize in Operations/Management — The Power of Innovation - Antelope Valley Green Energy Program in Los Angeles, California submitted by the Sanitation Districts of Los Angeles County. AAEE CAREER CENTER The Academy launched its new AAEE Career Center last week. The interactive job board will be free to members and is in response to increased demands by employers and recruiters for highly qualified environmental engineering job candidates. Employers will be able to post available positions directly to the Career Center for a fee of $250/position for a 30 day listing. Employer payment will be made directly online by credit card. AAEE/AIDIS/WEF BREAKFAST The AAEE/AIDIS/WEF Breakfast will be held on Monday, October 23 at the Dallas Convention Center from 7:30 a.m. to 9 a.m. Representative William Callegari, P.E., the Texas WEA Excellence in Environmental Policy and Regulation Awardee, will address “Water Rights and Reuse in the Central Southwest Border Areas”.
